Chambers Barber Shop, owned by Gary Holland, has been operating since 1999, originally on Newmarket High Street until 2015 when the business was sold. Gary then continued to work from a private, appointment-only Barber Shop in Burwell, whilst Mark remained a barber in Newmarket.
In May 2021, Gary Holland and Mark Smith began operating their own businesses from the new Burwell location, joined in 2026 by Johnny Chrysoztomou.
Gary, Mark and Johnny bring together camaraderie and high level of service that has built their reputations for over more than four decades.
Gary Holland
With over 35 years’ experience in hairdressing from London to Cambridge, Gary owned the highly successful Chambers Barber Shop - The Newmarket Barbers until selling it in 2015. Since then, he continued to work as a private barber in Burwell, maintaining and building his client base - locally as well as continuing to welcome his clients from Essex, Cambridge, Norfolk and Suffolk.
In May 2021, Gary moved the business to the new premises which he co-operates with Mark Smith, whilst retaining the name and brand.
Mark Smith
Mark has been a hairdresser since the age of 15. He ran his own salons before meeting Gary in 2006 when he started working at Chambers Barber Shop. After the business was sold, Mark stayed at the Newmarket shop until mid-2020.
In May 2021, Mark began running his own business out of Chambers Barber Shop in the premises in Burwell.
Johnny Chrysoztomou
Starting out as a teenager in the 1980s, Jonny has spent most of his hairdressing career in London salons. His work for stage and screen took him travelling extensively, and he has spent many years training the next generation of barbers.
Johnny has built a loyal client following through his recent years working in Cambridge and, as a local resident, now spends a portion of his time at Chambers Barber Shop.
